  • TAIMI – Technological Transformation, AI and Migrant Skills in the Finnish Labour Market

TAIMI is a Strategic Research Council (STN) project funded by the Academy of Finland.

In the project, I lead the management and societal impact work packages (WP6 & WP7). In addition, I work as a researcher in WP4 and WP3, contributing to research on DEI as a scalable skill and inclusion in multicultural work environments.

My role focuses on coordinating the consortium, building stakeholder collaboration, and translating research into real-world impact, while also engaging directly in empirical research.

TAIMI addresses one of Finland’s most pressing challenges: labour shortages, skills mismatches and the underutilisation of migrant talent in a rapidly transforming world of work. Key sectors such as care, IT, manufacturing and transport are already facing severe workforce shortages, while digitalisation and AI are reshaping skills and work practices.

Although migrant labour is essential for Finland’s future, many migrants still face barriers to career development, skill recognition and inclusion. At the same time, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices remain fragmented across organisations.

TAIMI responds to these challenges by:

Developing DEI as a learnable workforce skill

Designing AI-based tools for fair recruitment and skills matching

Producing sector-specific insights on how technology transforms work

TAIMI brings together researchers from six leading Finnish institutions: Aalto University (consortium lead), Hanken School of Economics, University of Helsinki, University of Jyväskylä, LUT University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland working closely with employers, policymakers, trade unions, NGOs and migrant communities.

By combining systems thinking, ethical AI and inclusion, TAIMI develops scalable solutions for a more sustainable and equitable future of work in Finland.
